Der Cospudener See ist am südlichen Leipziger Stadtrand gelegen und damit neben dem „Kulki" einer von zwei waschechten Leipziger Seen. Der Rundweg umfasst ganze 11 Kilometer und ist damit nicht mal eben so zu erlaufen. Etwa 436 Hektar Wasserfläche untermauern die für ein städtisches Gewässer recht komfortable Größe.

Der Cospudener See ist ein südlich von Leipzig gelegener künstlicher See. Er entstand aus einem Tagebaurestloch, das geflutet wurde. Anteile an der Seefläche haben die drei sächsischen Städte Leipzig (Gemarkung Lauer), Markkleeberg (Gemarkungen Gautzsch und Cospuden) sowie Zwenkau (Gemarkung Eythra).

Der Cospudener See liegt verkehrsgünstig im Süden von Leipzig direkt an der Autobahn A38 und ist über die Abfahrten Leipzig-Südwest und Leipzig - Neue Harth sowie die Bundesstraße B2 gut zu erreichen. Auch mit den ÖPNV ist der Cospudener See sehr gut zu erreichen. Die Buslinien 65 und 79 halten saisonal am Nordstrand.
